Top tips for packing a school bag:

As well as watching the videos, follow our top tips for packing a school bag:

  • Gather everything together before you start packing your bag
  • Put the bigger books in first
  • Some people colour their timetable using the same colour for a lesson and its exercise book. This makes it easier to see which books they need each day.
  • When you empty your bag at the end of the day, put everything in one place. This will reduce the risk of losing something.

Note: These movement demonstration videos have been designed to help children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD; dyspraxia) learn how to pack a school bag successfully. The videos show a movement demonstration for packing a school bag, performed by a typically developing child model and recorded from a first-person viewpoint. A qualified occupational therapist instructed the child model how to perform the movement demonstration to ensure that an appropriate technique was demonstrated. The videos are free for use by dyspraxic people, parents, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, teachers, or anybody else who would find them useful for supporting the learning of bag packing skills in children with dyspraxia/DCD.
